Time-Out for Total Fitness

The following is a video that I originally saw at "Barefoot" Ted's website:

Ted gives a good explanation of it, so I will let you read his post--click here to find out more:

So what does this have to do with ultra running?

Well, I regret to tell you (I'm sure you're gonna lose sleep over this) that I won't be running the next race I planned on running in. Oh well, that's just how the cookie crumbles (man, that was lame). I was really looking forward to it, but I am also refreshed now to think that I don't have any other ultramarathons to train for until Summer, when I will begin training for the Mother Road 100 (part 2) in November.

Why am I refreshed? As much as I like running, I hate losing my "total" fitness as a result. I plan on taking the next couple months to work on improving my all-around fitness level. This means push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, boxing (my favorite full-body trining), and a series of unique training methods (maybe not quite as unique as the video above, but something like that). This is not to mention the mental and spiritual aspects of "total fitness."

Regarding the "physical" fitness traning, there are some other groups of individuals who inspire me. They are the martial artists and gymnists, and they can do some amazing things. Take a look at this guy (in case you are wondering, it's not me):
